Success this Chimney Fire Safety Week
Thank you to everyone who helped us to support Chimney Fire Safety Week 2024. The campaign week, which ran from Monday 2nd – Sunday 8th September 2024, was a great success with Fire and Rescue Services, Local Authorities, Trading Standards as well as registrants engaging with the campaign.
We saw hundreds of you make use of the campaign assets on your social media, helping us raise awareness of chimney fires and encourage consumers to take appropriate action.
Press coverage
In addition to social media coverage, we successfully secured press coverage from various titles throughout Chimney Fire Safety Week, including Selfbuilder + Homemaker Online, netMag, NationalWorld, Business Mondays and Charlton & Jenrick. We also acquired coverage in local titles including The Yorkshire Post, North Edinburgh News, Wales Online, Leicestershire Live, and SurreyLive, with MSN and Yahoo pushing this coverage.
The success of Chimney Fire Safety Week would not have been possible without your support, so we appreciate everyone who engaged and continues to share the important campaign messages.
Chimney Fire Statistics
In England, a total number of 2,126 chimney fires occurred from April 2023 to March 2024. This number has declined by 16.29% compared to last year. We await published fire statistics from the Welsh and Scottish governments for the same period.
As we enter the heating season, it is vitally important that we all continue to share the important messages about chimney fire safety. 40% of chimney fires in England take place between January – March, coinciding with the period where people will be using their stoves the most. In January, we will once again be running our Book a Sweep campaign, encouraging people to book their chimney sweep. We will also continue to share regular safety messages through the HETAS social media channels.
