Barry Wyatt

Barry works as Climate Emergency Manager at South Gloucestershire Council and joined HETAS as Non-Executive Director in 2021. Prior to this, Barry spent 29 years at Stroud District Council, starting as a planning officer and going on lead regeneration projects before becoming Head of Planning then Director of Development Services, and ultimately Interim Chief Executive.

Developing and leading innovative approaches to energy efficiency, renewable energy and carbon reduction in the built environment has always played a significant part of Barry’s career and in particular understanding the interrelationship between energy, carbon, nature and health.  His wealth of knowledge and insight helps HETAS to develop its strategic vision for the future, raising awareness of wood and biomass as key components of the UK’s energy mix, and working to reduce the industry’s impact on air quality and the environment. Barry also works with the Board to ensure the mechanics of the business are fully maintained including business-critical processes to maintain HETAS’s position as a certification body, and he chairs our Impartiality Committee.
