What can we help you with?
HETAS encourage having your chimney swept at least twice a year when burning wood or bituminous house coal and at least once a year when burning smokeless fuels. The best times to have your chimney swept are just before the start of the heating season and after your stove has not been used over a prolonged period.
Sweeping your chimney is a vital part of owning a wood-burning or multifuel stove or fireplace. A regular sweep is essential for getting rid of any deposits or debris that can put you at risk of a chimney fire.
In the UK there are thousands of avoidable chimney fires every year. Between April 2018 and March 2019 there were 4,300 recorded chimney fires across England, Wales, and Scotland.
Using a trained HETAS Approved Sweep can help avoid becoming a fire statistic. Regardless of what type of chimney you have, or even if it’s lined, it will still need regular sweeping.
It is important to ensure that you have left sufficient time after your last fire to let any ash cool and remove any unburnt fuel.
Although your sweep can’t guarantee a mess-free sweeping experience, they will lay sheets to protect your furnishings from any soot or debris. It is also advisable to completely clear the area surrounding of items and cover nearby soft furnishings or furniture.
